Next Issue is an app that provides unlimited magazine reading for a monthly subscription fee. It recently announced expansion of its library with 8 new titles to reach a total of 80 magazines. Currently, this is an Apple app only, but the company has promised that Android users will get the chance to enjoy all of their favorite digital magazines in the future.

Is Next Issue the New Netflix of Magazines?

Two Membership Tiers

Two membership levels make the app affordable for almost anyone. The first is the Unlimited Basic plan that provides access to 73 monthly and bi-weekly magazines at a cost of $9.99 per month. The Unlimited Premium plan costs $14.99 for each month and also includes weekly titles. You can also read archived issues with either plan.

The new titles that were most recently added include ESPN The Magazine, Fast Company, Men’s Fitness, Food & Wine Inc, Travel + Leisure, Men’s Journal, and New York Magazine. As you can tell with just these 8, the magazines available run across a wide range of interests.

You can also share the magazines through gift subscriptions to friends and family. They are available in 3, 6, or 12 month subscriptions.

Who is Next Issue?

Next Issue is an app created by top publishers from companies such as Conde Nast, Hearst Corporation, and Time Inc just this year in April. The goal was to design an app for magazines much like Netflix is for videos or Spotify is for music. The next goal is to increase the number of magazines available to users, which could mean allowing some lesser known publications to get more exposure. It will also mean providing recommendations to users based on what they have been reading to allow them to try new titles.

Many of the members of Next Issue spend at least part of their time reading a magazine they have never tried before. This is great news for publishers.
