We have waited long enough and now the moment has passed.  Apple have given us more than enough products over the years to make our mouths water with anticipation and grin with happiness at using their shiny technological breakthroughs and with yesterday’s product reveal, the Cupertino company has, yet again, not failed to deliver.

First off, the date was clarified for iOS7 release to be September 18th and will be available on the iPhone4+, iPad2+, iPad Mini and 5th generation iPod touch.  This will be an overhaul that nearly all iOS users are eager to get their hands on.  Next up, it’s what we have all been waiting for: the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S. The iPhone 5C will be available for pre order this Friday and will be come in 5 colours – white, green, yellow, blue and coral.  It will sport a new FaceTime camera and have a 4 inch retina display with widescreen video capability.  It also has an A5 processor and a slightly larger battery than the iPhone 5.  The iPhone 5S was described by Jony Ive as “the most forward thinking phone we’ve ever created”.  The iPhone 5S has a 64-bit A7 chip, making it up to twice as fast compared to the previous model.  It will be shipped in gold, silver or space grey. This device will have a new camera, which has a new Apple-designed lens with f/2.2 aperture and iOS 7 has been designed to take full advantage of this new sensor by setting white balance and exposure level automatically.  The iPhone 5S has 10 hours 3G talk time, 250 hours standby and 10 hours LTE browsing with 40 hours of music playback.  Interestingly the camera now captures HD video in slow motion as well as real time. Next, we have the much anticipated fingerprint sensor.  For the real technology nerds out there, this is going to be an amazing piece of hardware.  The sensor is built into the home button and scans esub-epidermal skin layers.  The stainless steel ring detects your finger on the button so you don’t have to press it.  You will be able to unlock your handset and make iTunes purchases.  For the security conscious of us, it is fitting to note that the fingerprint data is not stored on Apple servers/iCloud.

The iPhone  5C will be available on in the UK to pre order from 13 September and the iPhone 5S will be available to pre order from 20 September.  The cost of the new iPhone 5C will be £469 (£390.83 ex VAT) for the 16GB model and £549 (£457.50 ex VAT) for the 32GB model. iPhone 5c will be available from the Apple Online Store, Apple’s retail stores, select carriers and select Apple Authorised Resellers.  The cost of the iPhone 5S will be £549 (£457.50 ex VAT) for the 16GB model and £629 (£524.17 ex VAT) for the 32GB model and £709 (£590.83 ex VAT) for the 64GB model.  The wait is finally over, now we just have to get our hands on iOS7 and the new models to field test them.
