Chrome Voice Search Coming To Windows, Mac & Linux

If you use Google Chrome as your default internet browser on your desktop computer, the creative geniuses at Google are doing everything they can to make it easier for you to search for things, etc. If you have a fairly recent smartphone with the Google Chrome app, you’re probably pretty familiar with the voice search feature. All you have to do is say “OK Google”, and a friendly voice will encourage you to ask/tell Google what to do. In my experience, it worked better than expected. Google would perform an internet search, answer a question, call and/or text someone, or even remind me to get certain groceries when I pulled into the parking lot of a particular store. If I’m being honest, I think it worked a little better than my Galaxy S3’s native S-Voice for certain tasks.

While the voice search feature has been around for a fair bit with smartphones, it hasn’t been available on the desktop version of the popular browser. That’s all changing, though. With the latest update to the beta version of Chrome, Google is adding the voice search capability. That means if you own a Windows, Mac, or Linux desktop computer or laptop, you will be able to take full advantage of this new feature.

Feel Free To Tell Google What To Do…

If you’re one who finds yourself asking if certain people are just too lazy to use the mouse, consider the following statement from Ji Adam Dou, one of Google’s software engineers:

“If you’ve ever tried to cook and search at the same time – say, when your hands are covered in flour and you need to know how many ounces are in a cup – you know it can be tricky. With the latest Chrome Beta, you can search by voice on Google – no typing, clicking, or hand-washing required. Simply open a new tab or visit Google.com in Chrome, say “Ok Google,” and then start speaking your search.”

I have to admit – I used the voice option quite a bit on my phone, so I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch at all to use it on my laptop. What do you think about this move?
