A 14-year-old girl from the Netherlands thought that I was a good idea to play a joke with American Airlines by sending a terror... Teen Arrested For Hoax Terrorism Tweet To American Airlines

A 14-year-old girl from the Netherlands thought that I was a good idea to play a joke with American Airlines by sending a terror threat via Twitter.

The tweet read “Hello my name’s Ibrahim and I’m from Afghanistan. I’m part of Al Qaida and on June 1st I’m gonna do something really big bye”. As you may imagine, American Airlines did not find the joke funny whatsoever and subsequently responded that it “takes these threats seriously” and informed the youngster that her IP address and the tweet would be “forwarded to security and the FBI.”

The teen then immediately realising the stupidity of her actions, went on the defensive, and said that she “was kidding” and that she’s “just stupid okay.”

Hoax Tweet

The teen did however gain a marked following on the Twitter after this event, in fact she tweeted that she “gained 3k followers today.” But the amount of followers a person has, doesn’t really help them in jail, does it?  Rotterdam police confirmed that she was arrested in the days following the incident.  An official spokesperson for the Dutch police Wessel Stole said, “We’re not in a state that we can communicate any state of charges at this point, we just thought it was necessary to bring this out mostly because of the fact that it caused a great deal of interest on the Internet.”

Hoax Tweet

American Airlines deleted its tweet “after it had been addressed in order to be able to focus on our customers.” In the statement, the airline also said, “At American, the safety of our passengers and crew is our number one priority. We take security matters very seriously and work with authorities on a case by case basis.”

As you would agree, not a smart move on behalf of the teenager was it?  As always, if you would like to leave a sensible comment, then please do so in the comments section below.
