Samsung is hoping to move into the future by going into the past. They’ve recently announced that they’ve developed a set of new flip phones aimed at the older generation. I’m not sure what all research they’ve done that showed them older folks prefer flip phones, but I’m sure there’s some kind of logic behind the move. And, as of right now, it seems the flip phone is going to be aimed at customers in South Korea.

What they’re calling the Samsung Master seriously reminds me of the phone I had back around 2006. But, that’s also the point – Samsung apparently believes the older flip style of phones were much easier for older users to use on a day to day basis. While the Samsung Master will do more than just allow users to make calls, it won’t do all that much more.

Who Wouldn’t Want This Phone?

The Samsung Master will feature a FM radio, a 3-inch screen, and of all things, a pedometer so individuals can see how many steps they take in a day. It also has a 3MP rear-facing camera. While it’s good for Samsung to think of more than just their younger clientele, one wonders how successful this phone will ultimately become. Many older cell phone users I know do not want a new phone; they’re happy as can be with their old phones that they actually know how to use.

These phones will come in a few different colors, including black, silver, and red.

What do you think? Is this a good move for Samsung? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
