Samsung has just officially introduced the Galaxy Tab S range of tablets at an event in New York.  The Galaxy Tab S range will comprises of both 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch models.  These devices will be available in Wi-Fi only and LTE versions.  Samsung described the new flagship range as “its best tablet ever”.

The tablets in the range come with 2560 x 1600 Super AMOLED displays, with a Samsung Exynos octa-core chipset and 3GB of RAM to run it, with either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage and microSD support for expansion up to 128GB of storage.

The design of the Galaxy Tab S range is similar to the recently launched Galaxy S5 smartphone, with a perforated textured back and smooth curved edge.  Interesting to note is the tablets also will have the S5 smartphone fingerprint sensor as well.  The camera is an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2.1-megapixel camera on the front of the device for video calling.

The new devices measure just 6.6mm thick, this makes the Galaxy Tab S range is thinner than Apple’s iPad range. With regards to weight, the 10.5-inch model weighs only 465g, the 8.4-inch model weighs just 294g.

The Galaxy Tab S range will run on an Android 4.4 KitKat OS and it will include a number of special features on board.  The device will be able to answer calls!   The Ultra Power Saving mode from the Galaxy S5 and the LTE model will offer a Wi-Fi Booster function as well, to allow for quicker download speeds.

The Galaxy Tab S will be available in the US from this July with the 10.5-inch model coming in at $499 and the 8.4-inch at $399. Samsung has said other regions and availability dates would vary.
