Here in the UK we don’t have Girl Scouts knocking at your door, bringing fine crafted cookies for your enjoyment. But in the US the Girl Scouts and their Cookies are a usual sight in most areas. The business plan for the Girl Scouts of America have taken a digital turn as Girl Scout Cookies are soon to be sold online. Currently, Girl Scout Cookie sales generate ‘an estimated’ $800 million per year. The new online initiative  could create anywhere between 50-150% more in sales, within the next 12 months.

Digital Cookie, won’t be available in all areas and there are going to be two separate digital sales platforms available;  Invites and a Digital Cookie App.

First up is the invites initiative. This will be made available through email. The Girl Scouts will need to get your email address in order to send you an invite code, which will allow you to get in to their troop cookie sales webpage.

Next up is the Digital Cookie App.  This “unique mobile app” will allow customers to purchase cookies through their phone or tablet. This system will be using a “non-personalized website”  which you will be able to log in to purchase cookies. This system requires that the Girl Scout contact her customers directly.

Girl Scouts of the United States of America makes clear that “Digital Cookie was designed with each girl’s safety in mind, and therefore she must initiate contact with people she knows to sell cookies.” So the initiative is not a single webpage which allows anyone to go to to order cookies 365 days a year. This system is currently live now, but don’t get too excited just yet, it will also depend if your local troop is deciding to participate. Each troop will decide on their own, and each Girl Scout will have to decide whether or not she wants to participate in the program.
