Increase privacy, security and control, with these five great web browsers.

Of course, all browsers can be considered ‘secure’, but there’s an ever-growing choice of specialised products that are specifically focused on the issue of user privacy, of handing back control to the user and opting out of the kind of data collection systems that underpin the likes of Google. All of which is music to the ears of many of us.

So, if you value privacy and control, there’s bound to be something here for you. And, as always, if you use a product you love and we’ve not listed it, please let us know in the comments section below. Enjoy!

Epic

Image 3 of 5

Available for Windows and Mac, Chromium-based Epic is a super-minimalist browser which strips out every unnecessary feature in the name of privacy. It features a built-in proxy that helps you stay anonymous and hide your location, as it shields your IP address. Epic also features an active ‘Do Not Track’ function and exempts the traces, once you end a browsing session. The app has some cool 'under the hood' security features that we really like: it blocks fingerprinting scripts and functions such as image canvas data-accessing in order to protect you from being tracked. While it’s true that Epic's one-click proxy does slightly slow browsing down, it shouldn’t really be an issue for high-spec machines, or for users who priorities anonymity.
