Photo apps are great aren’t they? Take Instagram for instance. The app started out as a small platform with a few features, now it has more fresh tweaks and filters than you can shake a stick at. The new update also features a fresh design and a lots of other new and improved features. Instagram has now been updated with five new filters (Aden, Slumber, Crema, Ludwig and Perpetua), a fresh, new look for the filters area of the app, the power to customise your filters tray, real-time commenting and also support for uploading slow-motion video (at last!).
Instagram says the new filters will take advantage of the higher quality images that are created by the upmarket smartphones currently available, such as the iPhone 6Plus. These new filters soften images and add a subtle colour shift to your work. The new filter tray design icons will now show a tiny, albeit blurry, preview of your image to assist you in quickly finding the colour and tone that you want. As was that case before, you can still tap on the filter to preview how it will look in full res.
Worth a mention is the update to the filter tray. You now have the ability to customise the order of the filters. So, if you use the same filters over and over again, you can now move them to where you need them instead of swiping through the filters you don’t use.
One really cool feature is the ability to upload slow-motion video. And your photo comments now updated in real time, so there is no need to refresh the app to see who has commented.
The app is now available on iOS/Android. Check it out.
