There’s little doubt that PDFs are such an integrated part of our connected lives that there’s a real need for quality software for the medium. Unfortunately, there are only a few major developers in document software, and they’ve become such household names in their industries that it’s easy to overlook some of the little guys. But one company’s title is standing out in such a big way that it’s sure to overtake some of the long-held market share.

Foxit Reader, which is described as a “multilingual (English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish) freemium PDF tool that can create, view, edit, digitally sign, and print PDF files,” is reaching out to the crowd that needs the enhanced features of PDF compatibility but without the full-suite price tag that some other developers have attached to their programs. Even better, Foxit Reader didn’t skimp on features while still maintaining a file size that keeps it from being too cumbersome, even on your mobile device.

While there are a lot of titles out there that let you open and read a PDF, Foxit actually gives you the power to create PDFs. Moreover, it lets you create non-standard versions so you’re not locked into the typical view of a PDF, and includes read mode, reverse view, and text viewer options.

While most PDF readers allow you to highlight and annotate (and Foxit is no exception), this software allows you to switch between PDF documents easily by clicking the tabs, just as users are accustomed to doing with the tabs in their web browser. Some readers require you to minimize one box and open another one from your taskbar, but the tab feature makes consulting other documents or comparing versions as simple as moving through your browser tabs. Users can also make portfolios of their PDFs for easy retrieval, viewing, editing, and sharing.

One of the most sought-after features of any PDF tool–and one that some developers charge a monthly subscription for–is the ability to convert PDFs to text. It’s a useful feature for a variety of reasons, and Foxit Reader brings that option to the software, too.

Perhaps the best thing about Foxit is the intuitive interface that looks and feels like other software and applications that we’re already familiar with. The top-screen toolbar contains fairly standard menus for easy navigation, or the labels are as familiar as any document program. This download-and-go style is intentionally designed to put new users to work right away without having to slog through a tutorial or user manual.

But how’s the price tag looking? There’s something for every budget and utility need, with the mobile app starting at $4.99 and working it way up to business solution models for industry. For more information on downloading Foxit Reader, click HERE.
