Expectations

Now, we’re not pretending this is Photoshop or Corel. If you need professionally edited results, do yourself and the world a favor and invest in someone who’s fully trained and experienced with that software. We can’t in good conscience let you believe that this will do it all, and we won’t help you put a talented freelancer out of work.

Having said that, PhotoPad is a pretty powerful tool, at least as useful as it can be while not sacrificing its user friendliness. It’s the perfect software for basic, everyday manipulation of your images, and comes with a complete range of options to help you get the most out of your snapshots.

Some of those features include:PhotoPad Image Editor is a picture editing utility that combines some powerful tools with an easy to use interface. It allows you to easily edit, crop, rotate, resize and flip your digital photos and other images.

  • Crop, rotate, resize and flip pictures.
  • Touch up photos to remove red-eye and blemishes.
  • Apply photo effects, including oil paint, cartoon, vignette, and sepia.
  • Sharpening and noise reduction tools help improve image quality.
  • Adjust image color/hue, saturation, brightness and contrast.
  • Convert your images to cross stitch patterns, paint by numbers, cartoon, or add an oil painting effect.

(Honestly, those last options can help you create fun, meaningful gifts for your friends and family without breaking your budget… something to consider.)

Once you’ve edited your images, you have the ability to upload them directly to social media or photo printing services. PhotoPad Image Editor is compatible with all major image formats, and lets you get the most out of your photos.

Intuitive interface

The interface isn’t fancy by any means, but it’s completely intuitive. You’ll just open a stored photograph, and start enhancing. Each tab offers a full set of new tools, and it’s actually a lot of fun to see what each one can do the first few times you try out the software. Don’t worry, you’ll be prompted to save any changes before you close out the program, so you’re not actually making irreparable changes to your original image.

Choice of options

Like most handy titles, this software offers a free version and a pro version. However, unlike most developers, NCH Software only asks that you purchase a copy if you plan to do anything professional with this software, such as generating cross stitch patterns from other people’s images for your Etsy store. Otherwise, the free version contains all the same features and capabilities if you’re using it for personal use, meaning there’s no pesky requirement to unlock a more advanced feature.
