Securely Connecting Other Devices

Once these security settings are enabled, you must add these new settings to any other devices they want to connect to the Wi-Fi network. This will include your iPhone or Android Smartphone your wireless printer, HDTVs and gaming consoles like your PlayStation and XBox. You can select these devices automatically connect to this network, so you won’t have to enter the wireless name and password every time.

Keep an eye on your network.

Whether you want to settle your nerves because you are a little paranoid your neighbours are sneaking onto your network or you just want to monitor things.

There are various types of software available to let you observe your network’s activity, but you can do this directly from the router as well. Most routers will have some log, which relates to the activity on that network. These logs can tell users what devices are connected to the network just by displaying the IP and MAC (Media Access Control) addresses of the devices on the network. The logs can be found on the same Web page that is used to change the router’s settings.

Security is your responsibility as a user and if you don’t take a few steps to improve your settings, then someone else can take advantage of the situation and you could be putting your information at risk.
