The battle sequences in the Star Wars franchise are cinematically off the scale when it comes to special effects and complex dog fights. As a kid I used to love playing Star Wars games in the arcades and then on games consoles and PC. But, there always was a lack of something, something I just couldn’t put my finger on.
Looking at the new arcade game from Bandai Namco Games, Star Wars: Battle Pods, I can now see what that issue was; I needed to be fully immersed in the game. The new game has you playing an arcade-exclusive world on a dome screen, which envelops your entire area of sight. Because all of your field of vision is fixed on the game, as if it is a real environment, the gameplay will be as close to the real thing as you are going to get.
The Battle Pod will launch in the US in January 2015 and subsequently it will then roll out globally in later months to participating arcades.
