I really enjoy staying in hotels while I’m traveling. However, I always have a bit of a panic attack when I turn on the television. Due to the smorgasbord of channels offered, I never seem to know what’s on/what channel it’s on. (And yes, I do realize there’s a TV Guide channel, but I lose focus after a few seconds and inevitably end up missing whatever it was I wanted to see in the first place). Or, there’s the other problem that I’ve channel-surfed multiple times and have settled on something that I really didn’t want to watch but ended up watching anyway for lack of better content. You know what would fix that problem? In-room access to your Netflix and/or Hulu accounts – and that is exactly what the Marriott hotel chain is trying out right now in a limited number of locations. Those who use Netflix and Hulu know how easy it is to become immersed in your favorite shows and to discover new favorites. But, those shows were previously limited to your home or smartphone, tablet, etc. Now, they could potentially be in your hotel room – as long as you stay in a Marriott, that is.
John Wolf, who is a spokesperson for Marriott, had this to say of the experiment: “We have invited leading technology companies and content providers to work with us to design the next wave in in-room entertainment focusing on on-demand programming. We are currently offering guests in eight test hotels the opportunity to stream their content through our high-definition TVs whether it is Netflix, Hulu or Pandora.”
It seems like all a person would have to do is use the in-room TV to log into their personal Netflix/Hulu/etc. account, and their queue would be right there in the room with them!
