Chief executive of StoreDot, Doron Myersdorf, says you will.
Thr technology required to fully charge your mobile phone in just 300 seconds could be on the market and in the smartphone in your hand by 2018. That is at least, according to the boss of Israeli firm behind the technology, StoreDot. CE, Doron Myersdorf, said that he expects the ultra fast batteries to enter mass production in early 2018.
According to Myersdorf, talking to the BBC, the batteries are already in production at two Asian battery makers and that full blown commercial manufacture could commence in the first quarter of next year. StoreDot also claims that it is developing technology that can charge the electric batteries in cars just as fast.
The company is also developing similar technology that it says can charge an electric car battery just as fast.
Seems legit?
Maybe, and then again, maybe not. StoreDot originally unveiled and demonstrated its proprietary fast charging battery tech in 2015. While the results then were impressive, the batteries seemed to be bulky and too large for current generation smartphones. But then they were only prototypes and a lot can happen in the tech world in two years. StoreDot claims its batteries will be able to recharge any compatible device 100 times faster than any device can presently manage, which is impressive.
The speed of the charging comes down specifically to way the fast charging battery has been designed. While StoreDot have been keeping their cards close to their chest. All that they have so far disclosed it that the design involves nanomaterials, and organic compounds.
Cool, where can I get one?
Don’t count your chickens just yet; unless you are an actual chicken farmer, in which case it’s always a good idea to know exactly how many chickens you actually have; so do. But as of the time of writing, StoreDot hasn’t revealed the names of any big brand partners for its super fast charging batteries, which might not be a good sign. And it’s not like the rest of the mobile industry is hanging around either, with almost every major player and supplier working hard on their own trademarked proprietary fast charging technology; and as Samsung discovered not that long ago, battery technology can literally be like playing with fire.
Still, if StoreDot can get their batteries to market in the first half of 2018, the way we charge all our mobile devices and even the way we use electric cars, could be set for a revolution.
