If you’re a big fan of the movies and have about $1-$2 million to spare, we’ve got some good news for you: now you can experience the world’s most immersive entertainment experience in your own home, with the IMAX Private Theatre system.

IMAX is launching this impressive theater package for only “a select few,” although it is unclear what that means: it is in reference to a limited number of installs available or to the very limited number of people who would actually afford to own the system.

Either way, if you’ve got the money and can’t think of a better way to impress your guests, you should know that you won’t have to worry about anything. IMAX will design every aspect of the private home theater system, from the sound and projection technology to the geometry and acoustics of the theater, offering a fully custom-designed in-home private entertainment experience.

As expected, the IMAX Private Theatre system’s technical specs are impressive: a huge curved screen (120 feet wide) going floor to ceiling and wall to wall, a dual projection system with 4k resolution, while the audio system features laser-aligned loudspeakers (7.1 channel). The 4K resolution projection system can handle both 3D and 2D formats, while the audio system also includes microphones that allow it to perform daily calibrations to fine tune the sound.

If you think you don’t have enough room, worry not: the IMAX team will work directly with architects, interior designers and custom installers to make sure the theater is built to the necessary performance standards and according to your specific preferences.

After the installation, the system will be connected to the IMAX Commercial Service Center and will be constantly monitored remotely to make sure everything is running as it should. The service promises a response time of less than five minutes in case something goes wrong. IMAX will also conduct on-the-ground support operations, performance tuning and preventative maintenance, as part of the initial package and for no additional costs.

IMAX did not officially put a price tag on this home theater system, but there are no doubts that this is something only Hollywood A-listers and those with very deep pockets can afford for the time being. It is nonetheless impressive that such a unique home entertainment experience is finally available for home use.
