Tony Hawk is all kinds of famous thanks to his skills on the skateboard, but I’d argue more people know his name from his hit video games than from his success on the board. On the games, you could do just about anything on a skateboard, except (unless I’m incorrect) hover in the air for an indefinite amount of time. In real life, however, Tony Hawk recently had the opportunity of a lifetime as he got to try out one of the Hendo Hoverboards Techbeat reported about some weeks ago. A hoverboard, as all fans of the Back to the Future movies know, is basically a skateboard, except that it doesn’t stick to the ground; it hovers, hence the name. Until now, though, hoverboards were just a movie invention – thankfully, though, a company known as Arx Pax has actually been hard at work designing and creating real-working hoverboards.
As you can see from the video, riding a hoverboard is slightly different than riding a skateboard. Check it out for yourself below!
While these hoverboards look like something most of us would like to own one day, be warned, they most certainly will not come cheap. You can view their Kickstarter page here.
