As part of a test phase, there are numerous Wind Trees, which are scheduled to be installed in Paris in March. The snag to these installations is going to be the cost. One tree costs around $36,500, but it is argued they can pay for themselves within just a few years.

Each ‘tree’ has the cables and generators sealed within the steel housing and they can be either connected to public power grids or generate electricity for specific buildings or areas.

Obviously, the ideal goal for these turbines is they be installed in large numbers throughout a city, in clusters.  The Wind Tree’s can operate completely silently, so they could look like urban art. The designs may even be scattered amongst real trees within public areas such as parks, to make the appearance more aesthetically pleasing.

What’s your view? Would you like to see these dotted around your city?
