There are some pretty good reasons for a kid getting suspended from school these days, such as bullying others, getting into a fight, verbally abusing the teacher(s), breaking rule after rule after rule after repeated warnings, etc. Those reasons, among others, are perfectly acceptable and even somewhat expected causes for suspensions. And then there are those “causes” that are so hard to believe it’s funny – such as a 9-year-old boy getting suspended for being a 9-year-old boy. What exactly did he do to get booted out of his elementary school? He put a ring on another kid’s head, said it was the “One Ring” (you know, from Lord of the Rings) and told him it was going to make him disappear since it had magical powers. The school thought what he said sounded a bit terrorist and suspended him over the incident.

The incident happened recently at Kermit Elementary School in Kermit, Texas, and is now making the rounds on the internet, causing humor and disbelief most everywhere it goes.

9-Year-Old Suspended For Making Threats With The "One Ring"

Let it be known that the boy is a fan of The Hobbit and had recently seen the newest installment and was a bit excited by it. Heaven forbid a kid use his imagination in this day and age and pretend that he was actually in possession of Bilbo’s famous ring.

What do you think? Is this not one of the most absurd reasons you’ve ever heard for a child to be suspended?
