Choose each of these pre-set options and you will see the values in the New Document window alter with each one. Not only the size and resolution of the image, but the colour mode and background colour are n there too. Click Advanced at the very bottom and you can change the pre-set Colour Profile and Pixel Aspect Ratios too.

What if none of the default pre-set templates are of any use to you? Well change all the options in the New Document window to the ones you want, don’t just consider the image size, make sure you start as you mean to go on with the correct variables in every field, and then click the Save Preset button on the right, Photoshop will then let you name and save this pre-set template so you can re-use it indefinitely.

When you save the pre-set name, you get the option to tick several boxes to say what values to include in the template, they are all ticked by default, but if you want one of the values, for instance the image resolution, to pick up from the last used value instead, then untick the Resolution box and it will not save your resolution settings as part of the template.

At the bottom right Photoshop will even tell you the filesize of a blank image in each new format, which will obviously increase depending on what you do with the blank slate Photoshop provides you with.

Getting in the habit of using these pre-set image values will not only speed you up, it will also make sure any work you do on Photoshop has a uniformity to it.
