Reviewed: the desktop video capture software packed with useful features.
Gom Cam is a nifty piece of software that allows you to record your PC screen exactly as it appears, well… on your screen. Gom Cam can also record all the audio outputs from you PC or laptop, making it the go-to program for making videos of your PC directly to your PC.
This makes it a great program for recording games, webcam videos and of course your computer screen. Gom Cam also makes the process of sharing your recorded video on YouTube, Google Drive or Facebook a simple and straightforward process. One of the best features as far I am concerned is the ability capture images and customise those captures by drawing on them while recording. This is an especially good idea for designing tutorials or highlighting key aspects of your gaming escapades.
Powerful Program
Gom Cam is a deceptively powerful little program. But as with all software, it doesn’t matter how much power is under the hood if people don’t know how to use it or if the controls are inaccessible to users. Fortunately, Gom Cam’s user interface is clean and intuitive. Put simply, pretty much anyone can become a master with Gom Cam’s recording abilities in just a few minutes. This saves you time and effort so you can get right to recording high quality videos.
Unlike traditional editing software, all Gom Cam’s features, including drawing, effects management, and zoom setting can be carried out in real time, which is a real highlight for people who don’t have the time to go back and spend time mucking about with edits.
This Is For The Gamers…
…and pretty much anyone else interested in recording straight off their desktop.
Where I think Gom Cam really shines however is with Gamers. Gom Cam can record both all your own stand alone or online gaming action, and records Direct-X and Open-GL based programs seamlessly. Again, sharing your gaming videos with your mates, or just saving them for later, is a cinch, and with literally just one click you’ll be capturing all the multiplayer action you could ever dream of. Gom Cam offers a variety of capture qualities, and will let you know if it can’t record what you’re doing, which is another nice feature.
The software is also surprisingly light on processing power and time, and didn’t affect my frame rate in any game I played over the last week or so.
Gom Cam can also be scheduled to record at certain times, allow you to draw on your video as it records, and allows you to capture images as you record. The effects settings are also a lot of fun to use.
The pro version of Gom Cam is a one-off purchase, comes with lifetime support, and allows for unlimited recording, and is also very reasonably priced. The only difference with the free version is that video recordings are limited to 10 minutes at a time, and a watermark is embedded into the video. But that said, it’s a small watermark and a lot of people won’t want to record any more than that.
Overall, Gom Cam is fun, practical and easy to use, and as always you can download Gom Cam for free, right here on Filehippo.com.
Happy recording!
