Evernote & Adonit Collaborate On Jot Script Stylus

The Evernote family of products is, well, ever growing!  It seems as though they are not doing this all by themselves.  Evernote has teamed up with Adonit for the new Jot Script Evernote Edition Stylus, which, when used with the updated handwriting app for the iPad, Penultimate, delivers a multitude of new digital handwriting features.

Capacitive styli and smartpens like Livescribe or the original Adonit Jot Script are not new products. However, this 5.55-inch long, battery-powered stylus is the result of eighteen months of collaboration.  The result is that the app and stylus have been designed to truly complement each other. Evernote’s Andrew Sinkov said, “We believe that the best technology experiences happen when software and hardware are built together to achieve a shared goal.”

The new Jot Script has physical improvements, such as a tiny, 1.9mm “pixelpoint” capacitive tip.  This gains added abilities when paired with the new Penultimate app over Bluetooth 4.0.  The User can now pinch to zoom and swipe to start new lines or pan around the page. That page will also now steadily drift as users write so they will always have enough space in front of them. The app can be programmed to sense how users rest their wrist on the screen and thus avoid unwanted input.

Users of the popular, acclaimed handwriting app, will get these extra features even without purchasing the Jot Script, but Evernote has insisted that they are designed to work in tandem. The Jot Script will also have basic functionality with any iOS app and software developers can get the SDK for even further integration.

The Jot Script Evernote Edition is shipping now at a cost of $74.95 on the Evernote Market. The latest version of Penultimate is available now for free on the App Store.
