The title of next installment in the widely popular Call of Duty franchise has been officially confirmed by publishers Activision, which also announced a release date for the game. Call of Duty Ghosts will hit the shelves on November 5.

The game will be first released for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, but there are also plans to launch for next generation consoles. It is unclear when this may happen, given that both Microsoft’s next Xbox and Sony’s PlayStation 4 are both scheduled to be released this year but the exact dates are yet a mystery.

Call of Duty Ghosts to Be Released November 5

Ghosts is being developed by Infinity Ward, the same studio that actually created the Call of Duty franchise and what are believed to be its best titles so far, the Modern Warfare trilogy.

The teaser trailer released for the game does not actually show any footage, but is very intriguing, showing several warriors from ancient and modern times, all of them wearing masks. One in particular, a ghost mask, will be familiar to Call of Duty fans, as a character codenamed Ghost and wearing a similar headpiece appeared in Modern Warfare 2.

Activision said Ghosts will offer users an all-new gameplay experience and a completely new story. Like many of the previous Call of Duty installments, Ghosts will apparently be set in the future too. It is believed however that the storyline will feature current technology. The multiplayer campaign maps will reportedly include various traps and interactive areas.

But what really got fans drooling was the announcement that the game will be powered by a new engine, developed especially for next-generation gaming platforms. More details will be released on May 21, via Spike TV, Xbox.com and Xbox Live. That is the exact same day when Microsoft is expected to reveal its next-generation console, so it’s pretty safe to assume that Call of Duty Ghosts will be available for the future Xbox platform.

The game is available for pre-orders at worldwide retailers. Check out the teaser trailer below:
