Fitbit has announced a recall for all its Fitbit Force trackers since discovering that the device causes serious skin irritation for some users. As well as the recall, the company will also be halting sales of the wrist-worn device.

Following tests it has been found that Fitbit Force, which is a wearable computer for tracking a person’s health, was causing allergic contact dermatitis, resulting in a red, itchy rash.

This is a big blow to the company, especially because the product has received excellent reviews following its recent release. Yet the voluntary recall is evidence of Fitbit’s devotion to its customers.

“While only a small percentage of Force users have reported any issue, we care about every one of our customers,” the company said in a statement. “We have stopped selling Force and are in the process of conducting a voluntary recall, out of an abundance of caution. We are also offering a refund directly to consumers for full retail price.”

Fitbit Force Allergic Reaction

Customers turned to forums on the company’s website to explain the issues they were having and in response Fitbit employed independent medical experts to find out what was causing the reaction. CEO James Park also released a statement via the website, apologising to customers.

Despite this set back Park has also said that the company is continuing to work on the  “next-generation tracker and will announce news about it soon.”
