I hate playing Scrabble. Don’t get me wrong, I actually love the idea behind the game of Scrabble, but I hate playing it because you have to keep score. And I’m not against keeping score either, but with Scrabble it is so hard to keep track of the correct score because the rules and points change for every letter placement. I’m sure more than one game board has been damaged over the years because one or more players thought the scorekeeper wasn’t keeping the right score. It’s only human nature to want to win.

Thankfully, the powers that be behind Scrabble are making it easier than ever for players to accurately keep track of their points. Beginning in the fall of 2014, new Scrabble games will come equipped with an electronic scorekeeper.

Scrabble Gets Updated With An Automatic Score Keeper

A Much Needed Improvement

With the coming of this electronic score keeper, Scrabble might just find its way to the top of the list for family game night. In the past, the popular crossword game may have done a better job at causing families to argue than bringing them together. With electronic additions to Monopoly and other board games over the years, there’s not an easy answer as to why it took Scrabble so long to get into the game.

Along with the new scorekeeper, the board and letter tiles are also receiving a makeover for the new generation(s).

Do you still play board games with your family, or have you all moved onto playing wi-fi enabled smartphone and tablet games such as Words with Friends? While it will definitely be easier to keep track of your Scrabble score in the future, you will still have to worry about your friends and family members using illegal words.

What do you think? Will you be picking up an updated copy of the classic game?
