As WhatsApp now has over half a billion active users per month, it is more than likely you use it or someone you know uses it. WhatsApp is one of the more widely used cross platform instant messaging applications that is available on the market today. The features are many and the interface is clean and crisp. The app can allow users to chat one-on-one and also it can allow users to get together to form groups for a real-time chat service.
Along the way, WhatsApp’s users have asked for an option to mute certain groups and it appears as though WhatsApp has finally listened to demand.
The latest WhatsApp update for the Android platform has brought several different options to the table, which enables the ability to mute group conversations. The options with the app are quite intuitive as they provide several time frames that the group can be muted from. This can range from a single day right the way through to one year! There is even an option for the user to mute a group for a whole century! This option is essentially a means for the user to block out and mute a group permanently.
Another important addition that is worth mentioning is that WhatsApp for Android application now has the ability to hide notifications. This means that even if the group is muted, now the users’ handset will not display silent notifications like it did before. All you have to do is uncheck “show notifications” and users can completely silence any group they choose. Also, a camera icon has now been added next to the text input field. This allows the user to rapidly take a photo and send it to anyone in their contacts.
WhatsApp for Android is available as a free download from the Google Play Store.
