How many Windows Phone users do you know for real? I think I’ve said this before, and I can count them on one hand. That’s not to say that Windows Phone may not have its merits, but one thing we know is that there is a good number of native apps for iOS and Android that have not made their way to Windows Phone. Then again, the same could be said of BlackBerry.

Instagram on Windows Phone

One of those apps is Instagram, which is certainly the most popular mobile photo sharing platform in the universe. While there was some talk of Vine killing off Instagram, that has not happened, and if Zuckerberg has anything to do with it, that’s not going to happen in the foreseeable future.

So does that mean we’re going to see Instagram on Windows Phone?

Sure. It’s actually there now, but the app is not exactly official.

Thanks to 6tag, we can actually say that there is Instagram on Windows Phone. Just forget the official part. The app is the brainchild of Rudy Huyn, a French developer. It actually used to be named 6tagram, but we know what Instagram has done about their name and its derivatives!

In any case, the good thing for Windows Phone users is that 6tag is a full-featured Instagram app – from applying filters to uploading photos, it’s pretty much like having the real deal. Other features include:
Video recording with cut scenes

  • Linear and Radial Tilt-Shift blur effects for extra depth of field.
  • Instant sharing to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr and Foursquare, VK
  • Unlimited picture uploads
  • Geotag your posts
  • Interact with friends through giving & receiving likes and comments

As there is still no news as to when Instagram is going to release an official app for Windows Phone – or if it ever will – it looks like 6tag is your best bet for now. At least you can still do what you do with those selfies.
