Warning: Selfies Spread Head Lice

The next time you are out with your friends, enjoying a drink or sharing a fun day out and someone suggests a group selfie, run like the wind! Selfies lead to lice!

A lice expert from California has delivered the skin-crawling news. “I’ve seen a huge increase of lice in teens this year,” she told the SFist. Typically it’s younger children I treat, because they’re at higher risk for head-to-head contact. But now, teens are sticking their heads together every day to take cell phone pics.”

It’s no suprise though when you consider how popular selfies have become. Social media is full of groups of people, all with their heads together, swishing their hair to make themselves look at their best. It was only a matter of time before the little beasties saw their opportunity to head hop.

“Selfies are fun,” McQuillan added, “but the consequences are real.”

So next time you all bunch together for a selfie, just think of what else might be trying to get in on the action.
