People sure do care a lot about their devices, and they will do just about anything to keep them safe or to get them back if they’ve been stolen. (Why else is there a Find my iPhone feature, among others, if we weren’t supposed to go and track them down?) Some people have taken drastic measures to get their stolen devices back, such as one woman even tracking a teenage smartphone thief into a Starbucks and attempting to get him to give her her phone back. That attempt didn’t end so well, with Starbucks asking her to leave, but she did eventually get her phone back. Other attempts to rescue devices might not seem so brave, but they are still a bit crazy nonetheless.
I recently came across a video from Youtube user Zwier Spanjer who in particular went to some really cold lengths to save his brand new drone (a DJI Phantom 2) from drowning. Since it’s January, and the man’s wearing a jacket in the video, we can only assume that the water in the video is equally cold. As you can see in the video, he was clearly enjoying flying the drone, when suddenly, its battery died and it decided to go for a swim. The owner of the drone did what any good drone parent would do and went into the water after it without a thought for his own safety.
As you can see in the video, he was able to save it from the water, but it’s unknown if the drone suffered any lasting effects from the accident.
Note to would-be drone pilots: Make sure to always charge your drone’s battery – especially if you’re going to be flying it over any type of water, because that’s probably the first place it will decide to fall.
What do you think? How far would you go to rescue your drone or favorite device? Let us know in the comments section below!
