What is Fortnite?
Have you been living under a rock? Fortnite is a widely played, free-for-all shooter game which has become something of a craze since its 2017 launch.
It’s a light-hearted take on tis classic type of game. Fortnite includes vibrant colours, fun characters and novel weapons. You can build strongholds and forts to protect yourself from enemies or build staircases to help you infiltrate other bases.
Thanks to an intense 100-plater PvP mode, one giant map and a battle bus, Fortnite has quickly gained popularity and is now one of the most popular online games of all time. The rules are simple, the last one standing wins.
The best thing about Fortnite? It’s free to play! You can find out more and download the game at its own FileHippo page.
What were the other gaming successes?
So, all the plaudits went to Fortnite. It ranked higher than big names like Dragon Fighter Online ($1.5 billion) and League of Legends ($1.4 billion), but those returns are not to be sniffed at by any means!
The usual suspects also continued to bring in decent money. Although it has lost a fraction of its audience since its big launch, Pokemon Go is still worth a whopping $1.3 billion to Niantic. Meanwhile, Candy Crush ($1.1 billion), is still proving very lucrative.
Interestingly, the ‘Free to Play’ games dominated SuperData’s charts. In fact, they made up 80 per cent of game revenues worldwide – according to The Mirror – with Asia coming out on top in spending terms.
