There are all kinds of apps out there nowadays that measure the quality of your sleep. They’re all really simple to use – most of the time, all you have to do is tell it you’re going to sleep, tell it the right time you need to wake up, and it will wake you up at the most optimum time in relation to your sleep cycle. Some of them will even record your sounds all throughout the night so you can know if you really do snore or not. They also record all of your physical movement during the night so you can see how restless (or restful) you are in your sleep. When you finally wake up in the morning, it will show you how you slept in a neat little chart with all kinds of peaks and valleys. If you have a lot of peaks, that usually means you moved around a lot or made a lot of noise while you were sleeping. And in case you wonder what you were saying in your sleep, you can hit the play button to hear it all to your heart’s content. All in all, these sleep apps are pretty great.

But these smart sleep apps are soon to be overshadowed by a new SmartBed created by Sleep Number. Sleep Number beds are already famous for allowing people to select their unique comfort level, but they’re about to go above and beyond just comfort with the x12 bed.

The x12 bed will include everything that is already popular with the Sleep Number beds, while also adding the Sleep IQ feature. Sleep IQ will continually monitor you throughout the night to determine the quality of your sleep. In the morning, using data sent to a smartphone or tablet, it will give you a sleep grade and will also give you some tips on how to improve your sleeping habits. So, it works just like the smart sleep apps, except the bed does all of the work instead of the phone. Here’s the best feature – it has a feature that is supposed to temporarily stop your partner from snoring in bed – all you have to do is push a button on the remote.

I have to admit – I really like this idea. What I don’t like so much, though, is its price – a queen size x12 will run you approximately $7999.99. But who can really put a price on a good night’s sleep?

What do you think of this SmartBed?
