It’s The Weekend…Update Your Antivirus Software
News September 18, 2015 Arianna Gael
For some reason, very few people count installing an update as one of the highlights of their day, despite the rush this week to load iOS 9 on Apple mobile devices. It’s mildly time consuming, at worst, but it interferes with the stuff we want to do at that very moment, so a lot of us tend to ignore those little balloons in the corner of the screen, the ones that warn us our computers are no longer protected.
Sheesh… they were protected yesterday, right?
Not exactly. As any savvy tech user knows, when it comes to guarding against malicious threats, your software is only as good as the threats it knew about when you installed it or last updated it. Each and every update is meant to fill in the gaps, patch the holes, and reinforce the battlements (sorry… been binge watching “Game of Thrones” on HBO Go).
How big is this problem? How about the statistic that half of all American adults will be hacked each year? Or that smart thinking from the business sector says that half of all businesses believe they’ll be hacked this year, and that their customer data will be exposed to cybercriminals? Or that as many as 30,000 websites are hacked every day?
Still too busy to install and update antithreat software?
Fortunately, two series of software titles have launched updates today on FileHippo, and there’s no time like the present to install them–either to reinforce or to launch them for the first time, if you’re like many tech users who have yet to bother with antivirus and internet security software.
The first is a set of titles from Avast: Avast Antivirus, Avast Premier Antivirus, and Avast Internet Security. With something for every budget and a tool for every type of tech user’s needs, the protection level runs that spectrum from just blocking a suspicious download to the ultimate in computer security.
The next title to offer an update today is Kaspersky Security Scan. More than just your typical threat blocker, this one actually digs a little deeper into your PC and roots out any problems that may be trying to run unnoticed. Even better, you can set this one to scan when you want it to, like during your lunch hour or during the weekly staff meeting or over the weekend while you make coffee. It will alert you to any threats and help you take action.
