For as long as I can remember, there has been talk in the air of flying cars. From the time I watched the Back to the Future movies, I have found myself wondering many times if a true flying car would be invented in my lifetime. Well, it’s not a Delorean, and it doesn’t travel through time, but a vehicle has been invented that can travel by road…and by sky. Go ahead and quote Doc Brown along with me: “Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads…” Take a look below at the SkyRunner.

Go For A Drive & A Flight With The SkyRunner

The Future of Driving?

The SkyRunner offers a radical new meaning to “all terrain vehicle”. If you get tired of driving on the road, just take off into the sky and enjoy a nice sunset cruise.

As you can see from the image above, the SkyRunner is equipped with a large propeller in the rear of the vehicle. What you can’t see in the image is the parasail “wing” that is tucked away until it’s time to hit the skies. What’s really interesting with the SkyRunner is that you don’t need to find an airport to take off – if you can find a pretty straight path that allows you to get up to 37 mph you are all set! Once the flight mode is engaged prior to take-off, the wing/sail will deploy allowing the SkyRunner to take flight.

In case you’re curious, the SkyRunner can reach a top speed of 115 mph on the ground and 55 mph in the air. While in the air, it can reach a maximum altitude of 15,000 ft.

If you’d like to get your hands on a SkyRunner, you can put down a deposit of $1500 to reserve one here. As far as the total cost goes, you can expect to pay $119,000. The SkyRunner’s are expected to be available within the first half of 2014.

Not everyone with a driver’s license will be able to drive/pilot the SkyRunner. In order to operate it, one must possess a Sport Pilot’s license.
