I have many fond memories of playing Super Mario Bros. when I was a kid. Sadly, I don’t recall ever beating the original, as I think I was always bested by Bowser. I have better memories of playing the third Mario installment – to this day I think I’d still get excited to use the feather and “float” through the air. And who could forget going up and down the green tubes that filled the screen? Or the mushrooms? Or Luigi? Or the princess? Mario is a pretty iconic game, that’s for sure.

I’d wager there aren’t too many people out there who haven’t played at least a few minutes of a Mario game at some point in their lives. For as good of games as they are though, they don’t offer an infinite amount of replay value. That could all be changing in the near future though, as Nintendo is giving gamers a whole new way to enjoy Mario – for as long or as short as they want. To make a long story short, Nintendo is going to let gamers create their own Mario levels in an upcoming game.

Nintendo Wants You To Create New Mario Levels!

“It’s Me, Mario…”

The upcoming title, known simply as Mario Maker, will be an exclusive Wii U game. It’s no secret to anyone by now that the Wii U has struggled to keep up with its competition since its release, so perhaps Nintendo is trying to milk their star character for all he’s worth. After all, Mario is a tried and true seller, so this could turn out to be a really good idea for them.

The game will allow users to pretty much do whatever they’d like to a Mario level – and then play it. And here’s a cool bit – you can play using the classic 8 bit graphics, or switch it up if you’d like.

An exact release date is unknown at this time.
