One of the world’s biggest cosmetics companies has teamed up with Apple, launching a new gadget to protect sunbathers.

In collaboration with L’Oréal, the tech giant has produced My SkinTrack UV. This electronic sensor can monitor exposure to cancer-causing UV rays and warn you if levels are too high.

Now, our British readers may argue differently, but summer is coming. So, this is why we should all be turning our attention to how we can best protect ourselves while out catching rays.

The gadget is small enough to attach to clothing, as well as jewellery or any accessories. Results are displayed on your iPhone, via an app which connects wirelessly to the sensor.

What is being said about the My SkinTrack UV product?

According to the Mirror, L’Oréal’s research ‘long indicated the need’ for better consumer understanding of personal UV exposure – hence why the product was invented.

The solar powered gadget integrates with Apple HealthKit, allowing it store up to three months of data. It comes under La Roche-Posay, L’Oréal’s premium skincare brand.

“[You can] establish effective habits that can lead to better skin with the La Roche-Posay My SkinTrack wearable UV sensor and its companion app”, say Apple via its product page.

“The sensor measures and tracks your personal UV exposure and provides pollution, pollen and humidity information based on your location.

“Using that information, the app offers personalised tips and skincare recommendations that can help improve your healthy skin regimen.”

It is currently retailing at $59.95 on the Apple website, but prices may vary depending on outlet.

My SkinTrack UV is battery free too. So, there’s no need to worry about charging. It’s waterproof and versatile, with some saying sunglasses are the best place to attach it.

When you buy the product, you receive the sensor and a clip. You can then link it up to the app following a quick trip to the Apple app store.
