Valve to launch Steam Machine this summer

It has been nearly 7 months since Valve announced the Steam Machine, Steam Frame and the Steam Controller. After multiple delays, the Steam Controller was launched in May 2026. And it looks like the other two devices could hit the market soon. Valve dropped the news as part of an announcement that said it was expanding Steam’s Verified program to include Steam Machine and Steam Frame. Now, it’s still unclear what the two gaming consoles would cost. Rumors suggest that the Steam Machine could be priced well over the $1000 mark, due to the ongoing RAM, SSD shortage crisis.

Valve to launch Steam Machine this summer

Valve may be ready to launch the Steam Machine, but will fans be ready to buy it? It depends on the price of course, but the SteamDeck was sold out recently even after a massive price hike. If that’s any indication, it is quite possible that there will always be people who would buy the Steam Machine no matter the cost.

Steam has a new Store home page, with new sections to allow players to discover games. Featured and recommended games now indicate more information about why a game is being recommended for users. Valve has also made an important change to the Wishlist and DLC sections. These now feature banners to indicate games that are on sale currently. Steam now has a personalized calendar, allowing users to check new and upcoming games that they may be interested in. The redesign comes with improved gamepad navigation, especially on Big Picture Mode and Steam Deck. Valve has added some motion sensitivity preferences to Steam’s settings where users can choose to disable animated marketing assets or microtrailers that play when hovering over games.

On a side note, Valve’s CEO, Gabe Newell, rejected that Steam has a monopoly, stating that gamers on PC have a lot of choice to buy their games from.

KDE Plasma 6.8 to drop X11 support for Wayland

Linux blog, Phoronix, reports that KDE Plasma will finally ditch support for the X11 protocol. The X11-specific code is being removed from Plasma 6.8. The current version, Plasma 6.7, will be the last to support X11 sessions. Going forward Plasma will only support Wayland.

KDE Plasma 6.8 Wayland only

According to KDE developer, David Edmundson, 95% of users are already on Wayland. Users will still be able to run legacy X11 apps and games.
Plasma 6.8 will be released in five months, i.e. sometime around October 2026. KDE had planned to discontinue support for X11 nearly 15 years ago, but was delayed as Wayland support in apps had been unreliable. This has changed over the past few years, with many distros switching to Wayland as the default session.

OpenAI improves ChatGPT’s Memory, available for free users

OpenAI has outlined how it has improved ChatGPT’s Memory feature. Memory was introduced in 2024, allowed the chatbot to remember things that users shared with the AI, and was able to recall it when required. The early versions of these were rudimentary, and the company admits that memories would go stale over time, and were unreliable. And that’s exactly what OpenAI has aimed to fix with the latest update.

ChatGPT Memory dreaming free

To do this, OpenAI built something called Dreaming, which runs in the background, and lets ChatGPT synthesize data from different chats. The new memory architecture is a more capable and scalable system. Users can access the memory summary that is created by ChatGPT, and make changes to it at any time.

OpenAI says that the Memory update is available to Plus and Pro users in the US, and will be rolling out to more countries, and Free and Go users over the coming weeks. ChatGPT’s dreaming-based memory, a feature that has up until now been exclusive to Plus and Pro users, is now available for Free users. OpenAI says that recent improvements to this feature has reduced the compute required to serve Free users by about 5x. It will allow the AI to use enhanced memory and context in chats. Dreaming-based memory will roll out to Free users in the coming weeks.

God of War Laufey announced

Sony has announced God of War Laufey, as the third game in the Norse saga. It is set in the afterlife, and will allow players to take on the role of Laufey aka Faye. GoW Laufey is being developed by Santa Monica Studio, but it is not directed by Cory Barlog. Instead, it is being headed by Ariel Lawrence, who previously worked as a writer on older God of War games. Deborah Ann Woll will reprise her role as Faye after playing the character in the previous iteration, God of War: Ragnarök. GoW Laufey will feature brutal combat focusing on lethality, power and fluidity.

God of War Laufey

Sony did not reveal God of War Laufey’s launch date, but notable journalist Jason Schreier has hinted that the release of the PlayStation 5 game may not be years away. That could mean the game could be targeting a 2027 release.
