Samsung Press Invites For MWC 2015, Galaxy S6 Incoming

Samsung has sent out press invites for Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on March 1st. Even though Samsung had a quiet CES 2015 in January, it is reportedly preparing to launch the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy Edge S at MWC to make up for it.

Samsung faced a crushing defeat in the last quarter, selling fewer smartphones than Apple overall. This is a huge issue for Samsung considering it currently sells over 30 devices and Apple only sells four.

To fix the lack of demand for its high-end devices, Samsung has reportedly sacked its old design team, and hiring a lead designer from Jony Ive’s old team at Apple.

The Galaxy S6 will reportedly feature a full metal design in four colors: blue, green, cream and white. Samsung is scrapping the leather on the back of the device, and this might be the first Galaxy S without a removable back for the battery, microSD and SIM card.

Internally, it is still up for debate what chipset Samsung will use, considering Qualcomm has confirmed Samsung has decided not to use the Snapdragon 810 on its Galaxy S6 this year.

Samsung could utilize its own chipset—the octa-core Exynos—to run the Galaxy S6. It might also look towards MediaTek or Nvidia to provide the chip, to supply the early demand for the Galaxy S6.

The smartphone may feature 4GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage (along with a 128GB microSD card slot), 4000mAh battery and 21MP Sony Exmor sensor.

Along with the launch of the Galaxy S6, Samsung might also announce the Galaxy Edge S, the flexible version of the Galaxy S6. It will feature the same internals and design, but with a flexible display.

Mobile World Congress will play host to Sony and HTC mobile announcements, along with a new Huawei tablet and wearable.
