Vivaldi 7.6 update brings a fully customizable tab bar

The Vivaldi 7.6 update is now available, and it brings options to customize the tab bar completely. You can remove or add any button you want from it, or rearrange the options as you like.

Vivaldi also has a tab button now, which lets you access a list of all open tabs, recently closed tabs, and a search bar to find specific tabs. The browser’s context menu has been redesigned. Vivaldi 7.6 enhances the address bar by introducing support for keywords such as @tabs, @bookmarks and @history. Users can type one of these options, followed by a tab or website’s name, to find it quickly. The browser now wakes up sleeping tabs faster, adds navigation support for trackpad gestures and touch input for Windows.

iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26 released

Apple released iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26 this week. The updates bring a new unified design with a focus on Liquid Glass, a transparent aesthetic for apps, icons, widgets, Control Center, etc. iOS 26 Lock Screen supports a 3D effect for photos that you set as wallpapers, with the new Spatial Scene option. Apple has simplified the Camera app to display just 2 options when opened, to take a video, or record a video. Swiping on the options allows access to more functions.

macOS Tahoe 26 has some notable changes, including the removal of Launchpad, an improved Spotlight with the ability to run quick actions. Apple has brought the Phone and Journal apps to Mac, along with the new Games app. Safari on macOS 26 no longer has compact tabs, in favor of a more immersive and transparent tab bar that dynamically transforms as you scroll web pages. User feedback regarding Liquid Glass has been mixed, with some users unhappy that there is no option to disable the transparency effects completely.

On a side note, Apple patched a zero-day vulnerability on old iPhone and iPad models.

Google’s desktop search app lets you find your files quickly

Once upon a time, there was a Google search tool for desktop, it was launched in 2004. This app allowed users to find files on the computer, but it was discontinued in 2011. Now, Google has announced a new search app for Windows to help users find files faster. It can be triggered with a hotkey, Alt + Space, and is capable of web search.

The Google app for Windows comes with Google Lens built-in, allowing users to select anything on the screen and search for it, just like you can use Circle to Search on mobile devices. It can also help translate text content and text in images from one language to another. Google’s desktop app also supports AI Mode, with support for deeper AI-powered responses, where users can ask follow-up questions.

The app is currently available for users in the United States, you will need to opt-on via Google Search Labs to test the tool.

Microsoft continues to push Copilot aggressively. Now, it plans to make Windows 11 install the Copilot app automatically. But it will only affect those who have subscribed to Microsoft 365.

When the operating system detects that another Microsoft 365 app, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint is installed on the computer, it will install the Copilot app automatically. This change will not affect users in the European Economic Area. There are ways to prevent the app from being installed. Also, Windows 11 will display a nag screen, when your Microsoft 365 subscription expires. Microsoft is also testing some new features in Paint, Snipping Tool, and Notepad.

First beta of Linux Mint Debian Edition 7 released

LMDE 7 Gigi is now available for beta testing. Linux Mint Debian Edition 7 will bring improvements that were incorporated in the regular version of Linux Mint 22.2, such as rounded corners for Sticky Notes, Fingerprint Authentication, a bluer theme and more. OEMs can now install LMDE 7 on computers before shipping them to warehouses. The upcoming distro is expected to be supported for the same time Debian 13 LTS will be, i.e. until the end of June 2030.

First beta of Linux Mint Debian Edition 7 released

One important thing to note is that LMDE 7 will not support 32-bit computers, it is 64-bit only. This is because it is based on Debian 13 Trixie, which does not support the legacy architecture. The final version of LMDE 7 could be released in October or November.

Steam will not get updates on Windows 32-bit from January 1, 2026

Speaking of 32-bit computers, Valve has announced that it will end support for Steam on Windows 32-bit machines. This really shouldn’t be a problem for many, since 64-bit CPUs have been the norm for over 2 decades.  Steam says that only 0.01% of its players are on Windows 32-bit, and these people use Windows 10, because that is the last version of 32-bit Windows that the gaming platform supports.

Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 next month, but Steam says that it will continue to support Windows 10 64-bit PCs. Only those who are using the desktop client on 32-bit PCs are affected. Steam will continue to work on older systems, but won’t get any future updates after January 1, 2026. Valve says users will need to upgrade to a 64-bit machine to continue receiving feature updates, and security patches.

When you follow your team in the app, you can get all the information on a customized home page, and you can also add widgets to your home screen for quick access. In addition to this, Live Activities brings real-time updates to your iPhone’s Lock Screen.

Apple Sports app is now available in 8 European Countries

It covers a wide range of sports from Soccer leagues like the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Champions League, NFL in American Football, MLB Baseball, NBA Basketball, NHL Ice Hockey, Tennis, and Motorsport like Formula 1 and NASCAR. Apple Sports is free, and available for iPhone models running iOS 17.2 or later.
