Getting a game about superheroes right is often a toilsome task, as there are so many picky fans out there that have to be satisfied. Injustice: Gods Among Us, the latest release from Mortal Kombat developers NetherRealm, tries to cater to all tastes, with extra treats thrown in for comic book buffs.

Freshly released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U, the game is also available as a mobile game download for iOS devices on its official website. In what regards fighting sequences, the game stays largely true to the already proven Mortal Kombat mechanics, while managing to provide an equally enjoyable experience both to newcomers and to more advanced players of such games.

The graphics are certainly eye-catching and the fact that objects in the background of battle arenas can be used as surprise elements in the attacks makes for quite an interesting and unique gaming experience.

But what will draw gamers to Injustice most of all is the characters. The game does DC Comics justice, by taking 24 of its characters, many of whom have never been in a video game before, and turning them into real gods of the battle arena. The impressive line-up includes many fan favorites such as Batman, Harley Quinn, Joker, Superman, Wonder Woman and others.

The plot also allows comic book fans to see how some of the superhero confrontations they were always wondering about would actually play out. Injustice is set in an alternate DC universe in which Superman, believe it or not, has lost faith in humanity and has become an authoritarian figure who rules the planet with a hand of steel. As you can probably guess, Batman and other superheroes disagree, hence an epic fight ensues. Yes, including the one we would all like to see: the Dark Knight vs. the Man of Steel.

Overall, NetherRealm has managed to offer a surprising release that pleases both fighting game and comic book fans, by offering exciting challenges and fights while faithfully recreating so many popular characters of the DC Universe.
