An apparently ‘secret’ hack involving the iPhone space bar is, rather hilariously, ‘blowing minds’ across the world right now.

Surely, we’ve all been in the situation where we have to move the cursor while texting to edit a misspelt or unwanted word?

This can be potentially problematic, especially if you have large fingers or new nails. For many it’s probably been one of those ‘First World Problems’ that you just have to put up with – but not anymore.

When one iPhone user tweeted a seemingly simple keyboard trick everything was changed. Indeed Krissy Brierre-Davis’s tweet, revealing a time-saving hack only known by an apparent select few, went viral within moments.

“If you click and hold the space bar, you can move the cursor instead of trying to drag the cursor itself with your fat thumb lol,” she wrote.

“How come you guys never told me this iPhone trick? I feel duped.”

Did the iPhone space bar trick actually blow minds?

Since she posted it on Sunday November 18 she has seen more than 134k likes and around 57k retweets. The replies have also been pretty special, and brilliantly imaginative.

One person wrote: “Fantastic, simply genius. I also wondered why on Earth I had to erase and fiddle. This changes the whole writing experience. WONDERFUL.”

Another added: “Dang, I wish I knew this a lot sooner. This is the single most important thing I have learned today.”

While a third simply said: “My life just changed.” Of course, there was also a wealth of GIF reactions too, from Ellen DeGeneres spitting out her drink to the standard scenes of over-the-top football celebrations.

Eastenders and Strictly Come Dancing star, Jake Wood, also retweeted; describing it as a ‘gamechanger’.

Surely a few people knew about the iPhone space bar hack?

Meanwhile, other Apple fans have however been less impressed – claiming to have known about the trick for years. Some also pointed out that you don’t have to hold the space bar to do it. You can press and hold any part of the keyboard to drag the cursor. Apparently if you don’t have a haptic keyboard you can use two fingers at once for the same effect.

Overall, this is yet another reminder that sometimes the simplest tricks are the easiest to forget, despite being brilliant at saving time and frustration. After all, with tech constantly changing and with each update moving us back to the drawing board, it’s not surprising.

So, what are your thoughts on the space bar trick? Has this also blown your mind and changed your life? Or were you also very aware of this for years and can’t believe others didn’t know too? Let us know in the comments section.

Also, if you know of any other ‘hidden’ features that you don’t think are commonly known, everyone at FileHippo would love to hear those as well!
